Getting to Mammoth
Mammoth is just that Mammoth. The mountain offers so much to so many all year long and the nice thing is, it's easy to get to. Unlike many other mountain resorts that require driving up winding roads and slow traffic. Mammoth is an easy highway drive with 2 lanes in each direction most of the way. The roads are straight and traffic usually cruises at 65-75mph.
Put your car in cruise control and sit back before you know it you will be in Mammoth.

New Air service to Mammoth. This winter California's Norht Bay Area has cleared United (SkyWest) for one flight a day between San Fransico and the Mammoth Yosemite Airport starting December 16 to April 24, 2011. The Skywest jet is a 70 seat Canadian Regional Jet 700. This is a Turbo jey unlike the trubo propeller plane that Horizan Air uses.

Horizan Air will continue providing Air Services to Mammoth also.

The Town of Mammoth Lakes had concerns about the noise impact however after the Federal Enviromental Assessment was analyzed it was determined that the amount of noise that someone on the ground would hear is about the same for both planes.

Getting to Mammoth from Los Angeles.Try leaving at 4am. It's great there is NO traffic and you get to watch to sun rise in the desert. It's awsome!!

Your driving along in the dark then in the distance you see a little ray of sunlight creeping over the mountain range in the distance. The color is a golden stream of light which quickly transforms to these brilliant oranges, reds and golds. As you watch this transformation it seems so slow and methodical but by the time you take your next breath the colors have fused and joined forces and invaded the night sky and made it clear that daylight was eminent. You blink and magic of sunrise has taken place. The feeling you are left with is a beginning. Everything is awakening, life is fresh and the day is new. It's strange but watching the sunrise leaves you filled with hope.

Tioga Road to Open in Yosemite National Park

Visitors urged to take safety precautions while traveling on road

Yosemite National Park Superintendent Don Neubacher announced today that the Tioga Road will open for the season on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. for all vehicle traffic. The Tioga Road, bounded on both sides by State Highway 120, is the popular east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada.

There are several no-stopping zones along the road, which are clearly marked with road signs.

Due to the heavy snowpack this past winter (115% of normal) and a cool spring, there is still several feet of snow in the Tuolumne Meadows area.

Hiking opportunities are extremely limited and visitors are urged to use extreme caution in the area. Additionally, ice is prevalent throughout the area and stream crossings are treacherous.

All campgrounds along the Tioga Road are closed. All commercial services, including the gas station, store, and village grill, are also closed.
