Visit Mammoth and experience Backpacking in the fall
Mammoth is one of the best backpacking destinations in California. Whether you are a beginner looking for a light hike with some breathtaking views, or experienced and looking to challenge yourself, Mammoth has the hiking grounds for you! Backpacking in Mammoth does require a permit, so make sure that you have that before beginning your trip. It’s important to remember that when going backpacking, camping, or on long hikes you need to always be prepared. Have a plan before you set out, never hike to far in one day, and drink plenty of water.

While nature is beautiful, it can also be unpredictable. Take the time to get to know the trails you plan to take, practice safe food care so not to attract wild animals, and please, always leave the mountain as clean as you found it so that the next backpacker can enjoy it as much as you did! Some of the most popular backpacking destinations are:
Ediza Lake and Mt. Ritter

Ediza Lake is a great place to go for the weekend. Its trail is average as far as the difficulty, and it follows a creek most of the way. Campsites are limited, so its important to arrange your sleeping or camping arrangements ahead of time. Mt. Ritter is a challenging climb that requires an ice ax, crampons, and the know how to use them. That is definitely for experienced climbers, or climbers with an instructor only.

Agnew Meadows to Tuolumne Meadows
This is not a beginners hike at 30 miles just one way. You can do this hike one way and have a cab pick you up at either destination, depending on your desired starting point. If you want to take your time, you can take up to 6 days to hike this trail, but speeding it up can get it done in just 3. There is a combination of steady hills, flat grounds, and up and down steep hiking. This is a beautiful hike really showing you the beauty that these mountains have to offer.

Thousand Island Lake
This hike is much milder coming in at just 22 miles round trip. This is a great place to go for a long mild day of hiking, fishing, or just relaxing at camp. This lake gets its name because the lake actually has about a thousand islands on it. It’s a great place to go and enjoy a mixture of everything the outdoors has to offer.

Mammoth Backcountry
Backcountry camping is defined as: Camping without making use of tent sites previously designated by the landowner. Permitted, with many restrictions. Mammoth backcountry camping has been a popular vacation idea for years and years, attracting families and friends alike. Backcountry camping is truly a way to get back to your roots, and enjoy spending the night under the stars by the campfire, taking in the beauty of the outdoors in its purest form.
Are you the kind of person that likes to “rough it” and get an outdoor experience unmatched by any others? Well then backcountry camping is for you. The designated camp grounds will have a water source nearby that you can get your water from, but remember… boil to purify before drinking!

Not necessarily the camping type? How about backcountry skiing! Backcountry skiing is defined as: Backcountry skiing, is skiing in the backcountry on ungroomed and unmarked slopes, including skiing in unmarked or unpatrolled areas either inside or outside of a ski resorts 's boundaries. Unlike groomed cross-country and alpine skiing, the land and the snow pack are not monitored, patrolled, or maintained.
Backcountry skiing can be a very exciting experience for the right person. You have a chance to be the first person to ski on fresh powder in an area where no one else is around. You can experience pure silence, while enjoying the gorgeous surroundings of the uncharted territory you are exploring. There are tours that you can take as a beginner interested in getting started, or a seasoned veteran trying to spread the word to your friends and family!
Of course, backcountry skiing can be very dangerous, so as with all sports, take all safety precautions, and always tell someone where you are going.

After your backcountry experience, come and experience a comfortable vacation home with all the conveniences and comfort of home. Visit http://www.mammoth395.com/ or give us a call (818)883-2488
