Sierra Star Golf Course

This 18-hole, par-70 course features 6,708 yards of golf from the longest tee, well-trapped greens, spectacular mountain views, and tranquil lakes and streams. There is a possibility that this course will have one or more water hazards. You can expect to see 71-80 sand traps/bunkers when playing. At Sierra Star Golf Club you can expect to find your distance to the center of the green marked by 200, 150 and 100 Yard Markers and Sprinkler Heads Marked. Beer and wine are available for your enjoyment at this golf course; however no hard liquor is sold.

Snowcreek Golf Course

Golf At Mammoth Lakes Snowcreek Resort Golf Course opened in 1991 and was created to challenge your golfing skills to the max! The course is located in Old Mammoth, between the Sherwin Mountain Range and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. This is a public nine-hole golf course spread out 3,306 yards from the back tees and surrounded by Mammoth Meadow and enchanting mountain streams. This course is open for business from mid-May until October.

Snowcreek Resort Golf Course was designed by Ted Robinson, golf course architect of over 140 courses worldwide. This Laguna Niguel, CA native is one of America's most creative and inspiring designers in the world, as he features the alpine's fastest bent greens there are to offer.

Golf At Mammoth Lakes This golf course can be classified as a Public track. Players on this course will be putting on Bent Grass, while the fairways consist of Bermuda grass. There is a possibility that this course will have one or more water hazards. You can enjoy a tall frosty beer at this golf course as they have a selection of beers to choose from. The pro shop is fully loaded with golf clubs, apparel, and accessories for browsing and shopping. Walking is allowed on this golf course as long as your group can keep up with the pace of play.

Bishop Country Club

Golf At Bishop Whether you're a beginner or a pro, this public course is a great place to test your skills. The championship course has been rated by players as one of the most gorgeous, lush, scenic golf courses around.

Located between the White Mountains and the beautiful High Sierra in Eastern California, with its rich green picturesque fairways and water on all but two holes, you won't be disappointed with the scenery. They offer practice bunkers, lighted driving range, chipping area along with beautiful putting greens and on course professionals to help you with your play and any level. Come Tee off at Bishop Country Club where it opens earlier and stays open later as the weather permits.

Golf At Bishop This course features 6,613 yards of golf from the longest tees, has a slope rating of 125 on Rye grass. Course was designed by Joe Williams and was built in 1963. Steve Shibley manages the course as the Golf Professional. Bishop Country Club is a member of both the Northern California Golf association and the PGA.

The Sport of Golf

Golf At Mammoth Lakes Golf is a Precision ball and club sport, in which competing players use different types of clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a golf course using the fewest number of strokes.

This game does not require a standardized playing area. Instead the game is played on a golf "course", each course has a different design, although course typically have consist of either 18 or 9 holes. Golf is defined by "Rules of Golf" "Playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the rules"

Stroke Play is the most general competition in golf, played for the lowest number of strokes by and individual. Match play is the lowest score on the most individual holes during a complete round by an individual or team.

Origin of Golf

It has been traced back to the Roman game of Paganica, in which participants used a bent stick to hit a stuffed leather ball. The Chinese believe it evolved from a game played between the eighth and 14th centuries. A Ming Dynasty scroll dating back to 1368 called "The Autumn Banquet" shows a member of the Chinese imperial court swinging what appears to be a golf club at a small ball with the aim of sinking it into a hole.

The game that originated in Scotland as the one we play now where the first written record of golf is James II's banning the sport in 1457. He stated it was an unwelcomed distraction to the learning archery. Golf was documented as being played on Mussel burgh Link, East Lothian, Scotland as early as March 2, 1672 certified the oldest golf course in the world by Guinness Book of World Records. The world's oldest golf tournament in existence is The Open Championship, first played on October 17, 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, in Ayrshire.
