El Niño coming your way?

This year's odds for El Niño look rather promising, and its potential arrival is being met with open arms by ski lovers and eager California residents. Not only could this phenomenon deliver a phenomenal ski season in Mammoth this winter, but it would also serve as a helping hand in California's ever-worsening drought problem.

In the Mammoth area, its effects are prevalent as this summery July week was met instead with hail and rain. According to meteorologists, current weather patterns point to a 90% chance that El Niño will be evident this fall and an 85% chance that it will continue through the winter season.

Relieving? Definitely. But even with a wet winter being invited into the laps of California residents, there's a long way to go before the water shortage is resolved-- years worth of decent rainfall, for example.

But, at this point, we focus on its positive effects! It looks like the ski slopes will be chock-full of skiers and snowboarders this winter, so make reservations now! Even if you decide to change your mind, our new CFAR policy lets you cancel for any reason during or before your reservation and receive 75% of your money back.

Lake in the Sky

Lone Pine Lake is pretty much the bottom of the top- the top of the highest peak in the continental US that is! Located right at the Whitney Portal, the entrance to the Mt. Whitney trail (for which a permit is needed in order to hike), this lake’s crystal clear reflection of the sky and the mountains surrounding it makes it a true gem.

The hike to the lake is 5.5 miles round trip and takes about four hours to complete. A mostly uphill hike to the lake makes this a desirable option for fitness junkies who find themselves in the area, especially because the lake’s altitude at 10,500 feet can make for a challenge! But, it is a pet-friendly hike so hikers are welcome to bring their four-legged friends along for motivation.

Don’t be fooled into thinking the lake is the only natural wonder to marvel in during this hike. Small creeks and streams are scattered along the trail and woodland creatures are ready to greet you on your way up.
