( 3 / 2840 )If you live in the Los Angeles area (or anywhere with access to the news) you woke up this morning to witness the wide spread coverage of the high surf pounding the Southern California coast line. As the day goes on we are seeing more unbelievable images of these record breaking HUGE waves, and hearing of incredible survival and rescue stories stemming from this off shore storm. Just as they all do…this storm shall pass, and another will be looming. With the winter months slowly inching their way closer on the calendar, we look forward to relief from this summer heat and dry conditions.
According to the National Weather Service and their team at the Climate Prediction Center, California is officially on “El Niño Watch”. This watch is issued when current weather conditions are favorable for the development of El Niño conditions within the next six months. An El Niño could make for a very wet and snowy winter in the Sierra’s.
Just as this week’s awesome surf is a dream come true for the die-hard surfer; an El Niño winter would be a dream come true for Mammoth! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the Climate Prediction Center is right, and we are headed towards a season of snowfall of mass proportions.
