The Sierra Nevadas & California at large are progressing into a drought this season. It appears after a record dry winter, California will be headed for a drought. Regardless of the state and regional trend, Mammoth Mountain appears to be close to it's seasonal average precipitation.
The mountain received about two hundred and sixty-nine inches of snow this season, according to the Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol. With an average of three hundred and fifty inches, the season is not too far behind.
As a result of the area's snowpack data,
Mammoth Mountain will be open through Memorial Day this year. Yay!
Get this --
The Sierras provide around one third of all the state’s water. Wow. At this point in the season, they are measuring at about sixty-five percent of the average precipitation. The National Weather Service's projections for March, doesn't seem to show much coming precipitation. They expect it to be a drier month than in year's prior.
The positive:The mountain will remain open through Memorial Day.
The negative:The water supply & agriculture of much of California may be negatively affected this Spring.
-Happy Monday, from the Mammoth RBO Team!
